The Man Behind the Headlines

"The Hunt for Bin Laden"

After the 9/11 attacks, Osama bin Laden went into hiding so that he could avoid being caught by the United States. He evacuated during the Battle of Tora Bora in 2001, and for the next few years, his location was unknown. Though there were speculations regarding his health and his whereabouts, bin Laden continued to release video and audio messages.

U.S. intelligence subsequently found one of his top couriers, Abu Ahmed al-Kuwaiti, and tracked him to a compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan. Reliable indicators suggested the compound was highly secure and secret, thus it was believed that bin Laden must be there.

On 2 May 2011 (local time), as part of a directive from President Barack Obama, U.S. Navy SEALs launched a secret operation. Within a 40-minute mission, bin Laden was killed and buried at sea. The raid also obtained valuable intelligence from the compound.

It's an excellent documentary that accounts for the manner in which the CIA tracked down Osama bin Laden using his favored messenger. It offers deep reflection on one of the most legendary recent manhunts' intelligence operations, espionage techniques, and decision-making. A must-watch for anyone interested in authentic spy craft and international security.
